4 Players to Sell-High Before Free Agency

The 2024-25 NFL season has ended, and it’s time to look ahead to next season. Free agency is the beginning of the offseason’s madness. Starting March 12th, free agents are eligible to sign new contracts. Dynasty trading is back in business, and you can capitalize on player values before the start of free agency.

Kyren Williams, RB (LAR)

Stats: 316 Carries, 1,299 Rushing Yards, 14 Rushing Touchdowns, 40 Targets, 34 Receptions, 182 Receiving Yards, 2 Receiving Touchdowns

Summary: Selling a 24-year-old running back who is coming off a season where he scored 16 total touchdowns and over 1,400 total yards sounds like a crazy idea, but Kyren Williams‘ value might be at its peak. Williams dynasty startup ADP on Fantasypros is standing at 41st overall. Williams is going to be entering his fourth season in 2025, which means he will be playing in the final year of his rookie contract.

Rams general manager Les Snead said a Williams extension is “on the plate” for the team and that the running back is “someone who is a Ram.” Snead also made this comment on linebacker Ernest Jones, who was later traded instead of re-signed. The Rams also spent a Day-2 pick on Blake Corum out of Michigan who intends to get more playing time in 2025.

With the growing competition and uncertainty of Williams’ future after 2025, capitalizing on his high value now seems to be the smart play.

Bryce Young, QB (CAR)

Stats: 2,403 Passing Yards, 15 Passing Touchdowns, 9 Interceptions, 249 Rushing Yards, 6 Rushing Touchdowns, 60.9% Completion Percentage

Summary: After an abysmal rookie campaign in 2023 and a rough start to the 2024 season, Bryce Young started to turn his career trajectory around when he got the starting job back in Week 8. From Weeks 8 to 18, Young totaled 20 touchdowns to 11 turnovers. Many dynasty managers were extremely encouraged by Young’s Week 18 where he scored 36.44 points.

A deeper look into the numbers will show you Young was fortunate when it came to his legs. In the last six games of the season, Young totaled 5 rushing touchdowns on only 25 rush attempts. This rate is just unsustainable for any quarterback and Young is not one of the big, strong quarterbacks who excel in sneaking in touchdowns.

With a reduction in rushing touchdowns, expect Young’s fantasy output to be around a low-end QB2. Young carries an ADP of 66th overall according to Fantasypros, which is a drastic bump from where Young’s value was one year ago. Perfect time to strike while the iron is hot.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. RB (NYG)

Stats: 192 Carries, 839 Rushing Yards, 5 Rushing Touchdowns, 53 Targets, 38 Receptions, 284 Receiving Yards, 1 Receiving Touchdown

Summary: Tyrone Tracy Jr. was one of the few bright spots on the Giants‘ roster this past season. After being picked in the fifth round of the NFL Draft, many expected Tracy Jr. to come in and compete for the backup job. The former Purdue Boilermaker shattered expectations and took over the starting job by Week 5.

Tracy Jr.’s success has skyrocketed his dynasty value to a startup ADP of 83rd overall according to Fantasypros. History hasn’t been kind to Day-3 running backs recently as most get replaced even after having success. 2025 will have a strong class of rookie runners coming into the league and I wouldn’t be surprised to see one end up sending Tracy Jr. into a reduced role next season.

Michael Penix Jr. QB (ATL)

Stats: 775 Passing Yards, 3 Passing Touchdowns, 3 Interceptions, 11 Rushing Yards, 1 Rushing Touchdown

Summary: Michael Penix Jr. was a surprising pick at 8th overall for the Atlanta Falcons, who had just given Kirk Cousins a $180 million contract. Cousins struggled over the second half of the season and was eventually benched in favor of the rookie from Washington. Penix Jr. started the final three games for the Falcons and struggled with accuracy. Accuracy was an area of concern for Penix Jr., who was tied for the lead in his draft class with a 22.9% uncatchable inaccurate pass rate.

Penix Jr.’s struggles with inaccuracy were on full display in his second career start against the Washington Commanders in Week 17. Most noticeably, Penix Jr. overthrew a wide-open Bijan Robinson who beat his defender on a go-route which would have led to a long touchdown. Penix Jr. has an ADP of 68th overall on Fantasypros dynasty startup rankings. With other great options around his ADP, selling Penix Jr. this offseason could yield a solid return.
