Injuries: A Tale of Buffalo’s Demise

Every season during the Josh Allen era, injuries have played a pivotal role in holding back the Bills in their quest for a Super Bowl. During this game, Josh Allen, James Cook, Spencer Brown, Terrel Bernard, Maxwell Hairston, and A.J. Epenesa were all injured at one point or another. Some players came back while some did not, as we wait for further news regarding the injuries. Terrel Bernard, a key starter on Buffalo’s defense, was seen in a sling during the 3rd quarter, and Spencer Brown was dealing with a shoulder injury. Maxwell Hairston, the Bills’ 2025 first-round pick, also left the game due to a concussion.

Game Recap

It was a defensive battle that saw Houston’s number one defense sack Buffalo’s Josh Allen 8 times and force 3 turnovers. Despite the domination, it was a miracle Buffalo was in this game at the end. As it stands, Buffalo sits at (7-4) and may be without Dalton Kincaid, Terrell Bernard, and a few other key starters heading into December as the Bills trail the Patriots by 2 games now.

My Player of the Game

Calen Bullock was an absolute menace for the Houston Texans on Thursday night. Those 3 turnovers I mentioned previously, yeah, all 3 were created by Bullock, 2 interceptions and a forced fumble help lift his Texans to 6-5 and continue to ride a win streak that now sits at 3 in a row.

We Have A Problem

I wanted Buffalo to draft DK Metcalf years ago; instead, we drafted Cody Ford. Last year, I wanted Buffalo to trade up and draft Brian Thomas Jr. Instead, we traded down and drafted Keon Coleman over Ladd McConkey.

It’s not just the draft that’s a problem, but our waste of cap on veterans Curtis Samuel and Joshua Palmer, who are no more than depth receivers, yet Samuel is getting $8M a season and Palmer about $10M. You’re telling me Buffalo couldn’t trade a 3rd away like Dallas and pay George Pickens? Which brings me to my next issue.

GM Brandon Beanes’ inability to be aggressive. Samuel and Palmer were “safe” signings at the time, but looking back, it’s just a waste of cap space. We could’ve traded picks for Davante Adams or any veteran that would aid the Bills’ lackluster offense, but Brandon Beane simply won’t make a move that will push Buffalo over the top.

My Answer

Honestly, I’ve been defending HC Sean McDermott and GM Brandon Beane for a few years as fans have been asking for their removal. After watching the inconsistency, we get to a point where we have no offensive identity. Some weeks, the Bills seem to be a rushing team, carried by Josh Allen’s mobility and James Cook; other weeks, we turn away from Cook and ask Josh Allen to be Tom Brady x100.

We lack consistency of any kind, and with Josh Allen turning 30 next year, I refuse to allow his best years to be wasted on an incompetent staff. Let McDermott and Beane go, bring in guys from the outside, hiring from within hasn’t worked, Ken Dorsey, Joe Brady, enough is enough.

A Look Ahead

Buffalo is 7-4 and now sits two games behind the 9-2 New England Patriots. Buffalo will have a long week before they travel to Pittsburgh and take on the Steelers, followed by hosting the Cincinnati Bengals and traveling to Foxborough and taking on the New England Patriots in what could be a game that decides the AFC East.
