So much for defense in Week 1 of the NFL season as the offenses dominated the scoreboards.
My defensive streamers were OK at best last week, as the Minnesota Vikings defense finally came to life late in the game. The Buffalo Bills were downright awful and the Atlanta Falcons were just ho-hum.
But it’s only one week in a 17-week fantasy football season – we have always seen a week or two in past years where defenses are non-existent.
Let’s get into this week’s defensive streamers!
Week 2 Defensive Streamers
San Francisco (10 percent rostered on Sleeper)
The San Francisco 49ers held the Los Angeles Rams’ offense in check in Australia last week, and now get to be the team that plays the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins may be the target each week to play a defensive streamer as Miami only managed 259 yards at Las Vegas.
Now the Dolphins go on the road for other West Coast game against the 49ers.
The 49ers didn’t record a sack vs. the Rams (the stat I love the most for a streaming defense), but they forced two turnovers and held the LA to 290 yards.
And despite the 49ers’ 12-5 record last year, their defensive prowess was limited by injuries, but defensive end Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner played well in the opener in their returns from season-ending injuries in 2025.
San Francisco is a 13.5-point favorite this week.
Tampa Bay (4 percent rostered on Sleeper)
And just like the Dolphins, it appears the Cleveland Browns will be a team to target your defensive streamers.
Deshaun Watson has been named the Browns starter for Week 2 despite his lackluster performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.
The Jaguars had five sacks and recorded two turnovers against the Browns last week.
The Buccaneers defense had quiet day in Cincinnati but was able to add an interception for the touchdown.
And the Vegas line is very telling – Tampa Bay are an 8.5-point favorite after the line opened at 5.5 points.
Plus, the Buccaneers played well at home in 2025 against the NFL’s bottom-tier teams.
Green Bay (47 percent rostered on Sleeper)
The Green Bay Packers get the honor of playing the New York Jets, even though the Jets’ offense may not be as bad as expected.
But the Packers defense was not as bad as the scoreboard showed in Sunday’s 39-22 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
The Packers recorded three sacks and an interception before the disastrous fourth quarter, where they gave up 22 points to the Vikings.
In the 2025, the Packers defensive unit was a more opportunistic at home than on the road as they recorded 10 of their 15 forced turnovers at Lambeau Field, but they face the Jets QB Geno Smith, who has thrown 32 interceptions during the last two seasons.
The Packers enter the game as 6.5-point road favorites. They have struggled against stronger offensive units on the road in 2025, but the Jets are the Jets.
