Last week’s defensive streamers I recommended were serviceable, at best.
The Las Vegas Raiders had a kick return for a touchdown to pad their defensive stats, the Cincinnati Bengals gave up 36 points to the Tennessee Titans while the Detroit Lions shut down the anemic Minnesota Vikings offense.
The pickings are a little slim for Week 9 as I’m picking one team that is exactly at my rostered threshold for streamers at 50 percent.
Let’s get in this week’s plays!
Defensive Streamers
Chicago (home against Tampa Bay, 29 percent on Yahoo!, 20 percent on Sleeper)
The rest of the NFL should have been put on notice what the Chicago Bears did at the Seattle Seahawks in the Monday Night game.
The Bears shut down the defending Super Bowl champions’ offense to only 252 yards.
They hurried Sam Darnold all evening and the Chicago front office is looking like a genius for acquiring All-Pro defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons. Simmons had three tackles, three assist and a sack in his Bears debut.
Now Chicago faces a Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense that didn’t complete a pass in last week win against Atlanta.
And we get the home effect for the Bears.
The Monsters of the Midway are different team at home than on road (even though last night’s game may be precursor to better things).
Chicago only gives up 257.8 yards a game at Soldier Field, compared to 387.7 yards in away games before the Monday Night win in Seattle.
Washington (home against Los Angeles Rams, 46 percent on Yahoo!, 50 percent on Sleeper)
OK, I know this one is right on the cusp of not being streamer as the Commanders have a surprising 50 percent rostered number on Sleeper (maybe it was the Philadelphia matchup).
The Commanders may give up points, but they have been good at forcing turnovers this season. Washington has forced 1.7 turnovers a game this season, but that number jumps up to 2.3 in home contest.
And the Rams have been giving up 2 turnovers a game in road games this season.
It appears the perfect match for sneaky good game from the Commanders DST.
Detroit (at Miami, 29 percent on Yahoo!, 17 percent on Sleeper)
I’m going right back to the Detroit Lions this week because they are playing against one of our targeted offenses.
Since Brian Branch has returned to his starting safety spot, the Lions have given up just 16 points a game and only 295 yards a game. During the first five games of the season, the Detroit defense had given up 29.6 points a game and 404.4 yards a game.
Now the Lions had to South Florida to face one of the league’s bottom 10 offenses.
The Dolphins have averaged only 290.0 yards a game this season, with a small uptick in home games at 309.7 yards a game.
The Lions come into the game with an almost 70 yard improvement in their yards allowed in their last three games (overall 373.1 vs. last three 305.7).
And despite Malik Willis being a mobile QB, the Dolphins have given up the fourth most sacks a game this season at 3.0. The Lions have averaged 3.4 sacks a game this season, including 3.0 sacks a game over their last three.
