Defensive Streamers: Two new faces & a repeat performer for Week 3

Week 3 Defensive Streamers

Well, it was hit and miss last week with my Defensive Streamers, but we’ll try to be a little more efficient with picks as the season continues.

Of my three main picks, Arizona was the only one that earned a Top 10 spot last week, carried by a fumble recovery and return for score for their first touchdown in the Cardinals’ win against Carolina.

Now Dallas and Indianapolis were in offensive slugfests and struggled to put up any defensive stats.

Enough about last week, let’s get into this week’s Defensive Streamers!

Defensive Streamers

Seattle (27 percent on Sleeper) home against New Orleans

I’ll have admit the Saints offense hasn’t been as bad as most in the industry thought it would be. New Orleans is currently 20th in the NFL in total offense, but this is their first road game of the season.

The Seahawks struggled in their home opener against the pass but shut down Pittsburgh last week for only 195 passing yards, which included Jaylen Warren’s 86 receiving yards out of the backfield. Alvin Kamara could be a concern out of the backfield, but Seattle is the top defense vs. WRs in half-point PPR, according to our Blitz Sports Media defensive breakdown by position.

Seattle enters the week 11th against the run and 21st against the pass, but the Seahawks are only giving up 4.75 yards per play a game (elite defenses on average allow 5.2-5.5 per play). And Seattle showed improvement in the third- and fourth-down department. It held the Steelers to a 35 percent conversion rate on third and fourth downs.

Indianapolis (7 percent on Sleeper) at Tennessee

Just like picking on the Saints offense, I will continue to pick on rookie QB Cam Ward and Tennessee offense.

The Titans have the worst offense in the NFL, averaging just 192.5 yards through their first two games. Ward did improve his passing yards and completion percentage playing the upstart LA Rams defense.

Now the Colts come to Nashville excited after their surprising 2-0 start. Indianapolis defeated Denver, 29-28, on a last second field goal after a penalty on the first game-winning FG attempt failed.

Despite giving up 28 points last week, the Colts are a Top 5 defense, giving up 267.5 yards a game, and only giving up 5.35 yards per play.

Jacksonville (3 percent on Sleeper) home against Houston

The Jaguars enter their AFC South Division matchup against Houston as a Top 10 defense in yards allowed, despite the 31 points they gave up against Cincinnati.

Jacksonville gives up 302.5 yards per game and an impressive 4.76 yards per play. And now the Texans come into town with a bottom 5 offense.

Houston has only managed 265.5 yards per game in its 1-1 start and is barely averaging more than 4 yards per play.

THE OBVIOUS START: There is only one obvious start this week and it’s Green Bay. The Packers travel to Cleveland in a battle of two of the Top 3 defenses in the league. The Packers are looking to go 3-0 for the first time since 2020.

I’ve been playing fantasy football since 1993 and seen and played a little of everything in our great game of fantasy football. I’m a true fan of the PPR format and been known to do a spreadsheet or two for NFL DFS. When not consumed by fantasy sports, I enjoy taking vacation with my family, especially to Universal Orlando, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Mackinaw Island and Disney World and I love to dabble into sports card trading.
