Defensive Streamers: Detroit looks to continue strong defensive play at home in Week 12

Defensive Streamers Week 12

We are approaching the point of the season we start looking at fantasy playoff matchups for Defensive Streamers.

However, the teams I’m suggesting for the Week 13 are not those teams.

Some of the best teams to target for fantasy playoffs are Cleveland (the Browns have four home games in the final 5 weeks of the fantasy season), Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco.

But we need to worry about Week 12 first — let’s get into this week’s plays!

Defensive Streamers

Detroit home against NY Giants

The Lions would be an even better play in Week 12 if Jaxson Dart doesn’t clear concussion protocols. He practice on the Wednesday could be cleared as early as today.

Even if Dart plays for the Giants, the Detroit defense has been stellar at home. It has averaged 4.0 sacks a game at Ford Field and has only allowed 274.3 yards a game in home contests.

And the Lions activated linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez from the PUP list as he returns from a torn ACL he suffered during last year’s Thanksgiving game. He will add depth to the linebacking corps and help on special teams.

Coach Dan Campbell said he expects cornerback D.J. Reed to return this week from the injured reserved.

Dallas home against Philadelphia

The Cowboys re-invented their defense with several trades this season and it’s finally paying dividends in their last two games.

Quinnen Williams, who was traded from the New York Jets to the Cowboys at the trade deadline, and Kenny Clark combined for two sacks in Dallas’ Monday night against Las Vegas. Clark, who was part of the Micah Parsons‘ trade at the beginning of the season, also had a sack in the loss to Arizona in Week 9.

Dallas has recorded 9.0 sacks the last two games.

For the season, the Cowboys are still ranked 30th in total defense, but held the Raiders to only 236 yards of offense on Monday.

Now they face a Philadelphia offense that has struggled to find its identity this season. The Eagles are only averaging 300.1 yards a game.

And Philadelphia’s pace of play may help keep scoring at minimum as the Eagles are tied for 24th at 58.7 plays a game.

Plus, Dak Prescott is dealing with a minor hip injury which may force the Cowboys to call a few extra running play against the Eagles’ 19th-ranked rush defense.

Atlanta at New Orleans

The Falcons are a middle of road defense for points allowed this season as they give up 23.9 points a game.

But they score the important points for a fantasy defense – they record sacks.

Atlanta is tied for 2nd in the NFL with 34.0 sacks on the season and has recorded 18.0 sacks in their last three games.

And the Falcons are better defensive team on the road as they give up 319.2 yards a game on the road this season compared to 333.8 yards a game at home.

New Orleans rookie quarterback Tyler Shough will be making his first home start and looked impressive in the Saints’ win at Carolina in Week 10. But the Panthers were able to sack Shough twice in that loss.

And there is the total for this NFC South Division matchup. It opened at 43.5 but has fallen to 39.5.

Offense may be at a premium in this contest. Kirk Cousins takes over at QB for the Falcons after losing the job to Michael Penix Jr. last season. Penix Jr. suffered a season-ending knee injury last weekend.
