A slew of injuries has sent shockwaves through the NFL and fantasy football leagues as teams look for matchups to exploit.
*The following matchups are based on the most recent depth chart announcements and could change due to unforeseen injuries or game plan adjustments.*
WR DK Metcalf | CB DJ Turner
Through two games, Metcalf has 19 targets, so naturally he’s getting at least 10 points a game, right? Wrong. Metcalf has caught 8 of those 19 targets and only has 67 receiving yards, and that’s with Michael Pittman Jr. missing a game due to injury, which should’ve only improved Metcalf’s production. The Steelers offense has been ugly to open the season, barely beating a Cooper Rush-led Falcons team and then putting up 3 measly points against the Patriots this past Sunday. I see little to no upside in starting Metcalf in your flex.
DJ Turner, on the other hand, ranks 21st among 96 qualified CBs on PFF with an overall grade of 72.1. It may not be Christian Gonzalez or Patrick Surtain-level production. Still, Turner has helped the Bengals’ defense look competent again, as Cincinnati has allowed only 16.5 points through two weeks, ranking them T-8th in the league, and I bring that up because Metcalf still hasn’t found the end zone despite 19 targets.

WR Michael Wilson | CB Deommodore Lenoir
How often do you see a WR score over 30 fantasy points with a TD? Rarely. Wilson has a career game last time he faced off against the San Francisco 49ers, and with the recent struggles- well, career-long struggles Marvin Harrison Jr. is and has been having- I think it’s time Michael Wilson had an explosive performance. Wilson finished with 15 receptions and 185 yards in Week 11 of last year, and it was just the start of his breakout; now he looks to give Arizona the boost it needs in the receiving core.
Deommodore Lenoir may have been the primary guy covering Wilson a year ago. The veteran CB looked to have immense potential earlier in his career; a statistical drop-off in the 2025 season followed by a two-game start in 2026 that ranks him 49th out of 96 on PFF, Lenoir finds himself in a year in which he must be a cornerstone of the Niners’ defense in 2026 and years to come.
Start Michael Wilson
WR Denzel Boston | CB Jaycee Horn
Denzel Boston has been impressive through two weeks, and I admit I thought it was a questionable decision to double up on WR for the Cleveland Browns back in April, i,l but Concepcion and Boston look like a formidable duo in the foreseeable future. Boston snagged a receiving TD in each of his first two games and looks to go 3 for 3, joining Malik Nabers and Ja’Marr Chase as the most recent WRs to score a TD in each of their first three games.
Jaycee Horn has a different plan. The physical corner has made a career out of locking down receivers with massive frames such as Boston. Horn is also much better than his PFF rank through two weeks (30th), and with how hot the Panthers offense has been, only time will tell if the defense will be good enough as a whole to be a threat in the NFC South.
Start Denzel Boston
WR Xavier Worthy | CB JuJu Brents
The speedy receiver caused some problems for the Indianapolis Colts. Xavier Worthy racked up 25 yards and a TD on 5 receptions; not the flashiest yard total, but the TD really boosted his numbers in Week 2. Worthy has become a slightly worse version than the next wideout that I will mention due to their lack of consistency and TD-dependent fantasy football production.
JuJu Brents isn’t that great of a CB; let’s be realistic. This isn’t the first time I’ve targeted the Dolphins secondary; it’s just a fact that these guys would be much lower on the depth chart on 31 other teams. Brents will have a tough time keeping up with Worthy, as he ran a 4.53 40-yard dash in the 2023 combine. Still, assuming the Dolphins provide safety help over the top to limit Worthy’s deep-threat ability, Brents should be able to hold his own on short throws just on the size difference alone, as Brents is 6’3″.
Bench Xavier Worthy
WR Jameson Williams | CB Azareye’h Thomas
Speaking of serious threats and TD-dependent players, Jameson Williams has been just that throughout his career until last season, when it seemed like he finally became a good flex option, but through two weeks and no TDs, his stats are underwhelming, to say the least. Williams has just 6 receptions on 13 targets for 78 yards. I don’t have confidence in Williams if I ever need to start him in the flex.
New York Jets CB Azareye’h Thomas could be one of the Jets’ only bright spots this season, as the sophomore corner has had an impressive start and ranks 10th among the 96 qualified CBs on PFF. This hot start combined with Williams’ slow start is enough for me to stay away from Jamo this week.
