Every once in a while I will run into a great sleeper play for my Sleepers & Duds story.
The years of working on my spreadsheet for DFS has shown me when to make that right call.
Last week, New England’s Mack Hollins was that right player. He finished with 6 catches for 106 receiving yards in the Patriots’ road win against Tampa Bay.
Let’s see I can hit another one those calls!
QB Sleepers
Brock Purdy, San Francisco
Purdy appears to be healthy enough to return to the starting lineup for the 49ers, and he gets a familiar foe he has tortured.
In four matchups against NFC West Division foe Arizona, Purdy has for 9 TD passes and only 2 interceptions in the four games.
And he has an added bonus – his entire receiving corps should be healthy for this game. Ricky Pearsall (knee) should return to join Jauan Jennings and George Kittle, who both have battled injuries this season.
QB Duds
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore
Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t start Jackson but take a bit of caution in the Ravens’ AFC North matchup at Cleveland.
Lamar has had some big games against the Browns in the past, but he seems to struggle a bit while playing games in Cleveland. He has only thrown 8 of his career 22 TD passes against the Browns in the road.
Then add in the weather – the temperature is expected to be in the low 40s with a chance of light rain and wind gusts more than 30 mph.
RB Sleepers
RJ Harvey, Denver
Harvey is finally going to get his chance to have the Broncos backfield to himself. But his start this week will be a tough one against the Kansas City run defense.
However, Harvey has been making most of his opportunities in the passing game. He has scored 4 of his 6 total TDs on pass receptions.
For the season, he has 25 receptions for 175 yards, but he is averaging 4.3 yards a carry on his 50 rushes this season. The Chiefs are giving up 4.4 yards rushing per attempt and 7.97 yards per receptions to RBs this season.
RB Duds
Kenneth Walker III, Seattle
Walker III may have taken over the majority of the snaps in the Seattle backfield in the last two games, but Zach Charbonnet continues to get the valuable touches – goal line work.
Charbonnet has scored 6 rushing TDs to Walker III’s 3 this season, and now the Seahawks face a LA Rams defense that has shut down RBs this season.
The Rams only allow 11.3 fantasy points a game to running backs, which leaves very little points for a split backfield.
WR Sleepers
Troy Franklin, Denver
After tying for season-low in snap percentage in Week 6, Franklin has become the undisputed No. 2 WR in the Broncos offense.
Franklin has averaged a 69.5 snap percentage in his last four games and has his two highest scoring weeks in the last 3 weeks.
Despite the Chiefs being one the best defenses against WRs this season, Franklin has found a way to be productive in his last four games, averaging 4.5 receptions, 43.8 yards and a touchdown a game.
WR Duds
Rashee Rice, Kansas City
Rice has be very productive since his return from suspension in Week 7. He has averaged 22.4 points a game in his three games, but now faces a Denver defense that has dominated WRs.
The Broncos have given up a league-low 13.6 fantasy points a game to WRs this season and have only allowed 2 TD receptions by WRs.
With Patrick Surtain II out again, the Broncos will be paying extra attention to Rice and someone else will need to step up for the KC receiving corps.
TE Sleepers
Noah Fant, Cincinnati
I know a lot the talk surrounding the Bengals offense vs. Pittsburgh is Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, but the Steelers are not a good team against tight ends this season either.
Pittsburgh is in the Top 10 receptions (55) allowed to TEs, yardage (613) allowed to TEs, touchdowns (6) allowed to TEs and fantasy points (10.8) a game.
And the teams’ first matchup, Fant had 4 catches on 4 targets for 44 yards and a TD.
TE Duds
Cade Otton, Tampa Bay
Otton has been must start since Mike Evans’ injury in Week 7 as Otton has averaged 12.6 ppr in the Buccaneers’ last two games.
But now he faces the Buffalo defense that has been a stingy unit vs. TEs this season.
The Bills are ranked as the best defense against TEs as they given up only 23 receptions for 242 yards and one touchdown to tight end for the season.
