Week 8 Hot Takes: Vikings Go Berserk in Fantasy

The Week 7 slate delivered another wild round of divisional matchups, but before we pivot to Week 8, let’s look at how our predictions stacked up:

We ended up going 2-for-5 on bold calls last week! We nailed Jameson Williams blowing the top off the Packers’ secondary for 91 yards and 2 TDs, but Goff didn’t do as well in fantasy. Meanwhile, our fade on Jonathan Taylor was completely wrong (he gashed Minnesota for 95 yards and a TD), and Tucker Kraft finished with a respectable 14.8 PPR points (4 REC, 48 YDS, 1 TD) rather than a top-3 TE week.

With momentum on our side, it’s time to put our necks back on the line with four high-stakes bold predictions for Week 8 to help you set winning lineups or spot landmines before kickoff.

Hot Take #1: Kyler Murray Finally Explodes for a 20+ Fantasy Point Performance vs. Detroit

Kyler Murray has had a quiet fantasy stretch by his standards, but as the Vikings face the Lions in Week 8, the stage is set for a massive bounce-back game. Lions’ defense has struggled to contain mobile, off-script quarterbacks, frequently surrendering explosive plays downfield when forced to extend coverage.

Coming off a solid stretch of play, Kyler is primed to capitalize on Detroit’s aggressive pass rush by using his legs to extend drives. Look for Murray to slice up the Lions’ secondary for over 230 passing yards while racking up 40+ yards and a score on the ground, pushing him well past the 20-point mark for his best fantasy outing of the season.

Hot Take #2: Chase Brown Finally Gets His, with 25+ PPR Points

Chase Brown’s path to exploding for 25+ PPR points gets a massive boost following Tennessee’s trade of star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to the Bears, leaving an already vulnerable Titans interior run defense depleted of its top anchor. He has had over 20 before, but this is the ultimate get-right spot for the Bengals running back.

His usage went back up last week despite Samaje Perine vulture the touchdown vs. the Ravens, but that shouldn’t happen again, with elite receiving upside. The Bengals enter as double-digit home favorites. Early leads mean controlling the clock in the second half, spiking his total touches over 20. He has been dynamic in space but overdue for multi-touchdown upside. A positive game script in the red zone yields those high-value touch opportunities.

Hot Take #3: Josh Downs Breaks Out with a 15+ PPR Point Performance @ Jaguars

Josh Downs has been operating as a lower-volume option at times in the Colts’ passing offense, but Week 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars presents the ultimate get-right spot with him requesting a trade. Jacksonville’s defense continues to bleed fantasy points to high-volume slot receivers, allowing heavy target allocation underneath.

With top perimeter options drawing extra defensive attention, quarterback Daniel Jones will rely heavily on Downs to keep the chains moving on quick-rhythm throws. Expect Downs to command strong target volume, hauling in 7+ catches for 80+ yards to comfortably clear the 15-point PPR threshold even with Keenan Allen and Tyler Warren back as a squeaky wheel game for Downs.

Hot Take #4: Kyle Pitts Goes Nuclear Again vs. Buccaneers with 20+ PPR Points

Kyle Pitts has flashed dynamic potential in Atlanta’s offense, and his Week 8 clash against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is tailor-made for another TE1 explosion. Tampa Bay’s defense continues to struggle covering athletic tight ends over the middle, often vacating the seam to protect against perimeter deep shots. Pitts’ rare combination of speed and size makes him a nightmare matchup for the Bucs’ linebackers and safeties.

Look for Atlanta to feature Pitts early and often in the red zone, leading to a massive stat line that vaults him past 20 PPR points for a slate-winning tight end performance.
